You look like a smart guy Yankee. Why dont you buy the cells and build the panel yourself ? I just ordered some from ebay last week and it cost much less. Happy new year!

Thanks for sharing. You have obviously put a lot of thought into your preps. What are your thoughts on using Forklift batteries? Also, how long do you have to run your generator to charge your battery bank from totally spent to fully charged? Thanks!

  3. Yankeeprepper says:

I looked at forklift batteries as well. Dollar or dollar and bang for your buck…..the T105 still came out ahead.

I couple other things to consider about fork bats. You can not move them with heavy equipment and if a cell dies in the fork bat. it’s much harder to replace than just going to get another T105. I built my system so I could move it fairly easily out of my house if I had to. Probably in less than a couple hours, all packed into a trailer.

sorry about the miss types! I just came in from the outside and my fingers were frozen!!

    “dollar for dollar”

“you can not move them WITHOUT heavy equip.”

Thanks for the info. It is below freezing in the South today as well! I fould a couple fork bats for near free and was wondering if it was worth the headache to go get them. Some rollers, a trailer with a chain block, and some heavy sweating… It didn’t sound pleasant. I think the weight on each is about 450-500lbs.

    Thanks again!

You are welcome friend. If you do decide to give it a try, check those bats first for charge. Lots of people trying to get rid of forklift batteries, it cost to have them hauled away and recycled. I have an old forklift battery at the plant and it sits in the corner. It’s shot and I don’t want to have to pay the “green” tax to get it recycled. thought I would save it for SHTF and melt the lead into bullets then.

I love the lister D engines. I’m looking for one myself but all i find are the petrol ones. They’re expensive too at about €500 each here. I didn’t realise you were in MN, I was in MSP and Winona in 2001

  8. nkey01 says:

    Hi SelfSufficientEire,
I dont know any thing about generators or engines.

If you search “Clarke Heavy Duty Diesel Powered Generator” on google there is a Generator which claims to has a “Lister engine”, it cost £4,888 and has 17.25kVA output at 400v three phase (what ever that means).

I look forward to some new vids from you.

  9. SelfSufficientEire says:

Hi, Lister is still going. The company has been going for at least a hundred years. They use them on cement mixers etc to this day. But the old ones like YP has are the best. They are bombproof and run on anything that combusts at all. Vodka, Diesel, Sun flower oil, anything at all. And they go down to about 50 rpm.

  10. nkey01 says:

    SelfSufficientEire,
amazing engine, I am starting to think YP knows what he is talking about ;)

  11. Yankeeprepper says:

AHhhhhhh…..I wouldn’t go jumping to any conclusions just yet….

  12. FLIPWILSON1 says:

what model lister engine is that?

  13. Glen1040 says:

    Nice.
I just bought a Petters 7 HP diesel which I believe is a Lister.
Your videos has inspired me, I am going to do the same as you with the alternator.
I have a 440 AH battery bank changed by solar panels but putting a generator on it will give me heaps more power.
I do have petrol 240 volt generators but petrol doesn’t store all that long.
Thanks for showing, now I guess I better go pick up my diesel and make it all up.

  14. Yankeeprepper says:

if you actually listened to the video you would know.

Not only did I show a 300 gallon tank of diesel, but the Lister is mulit fuel. Basically any oil will burn in it, including VEG oil or even used motor oil. How many years of used motor oil do you think is in all the vehicles that will be sitting there after we run out of gas or there is an EMP?

  15. ess1898 says:

That motor is truly a thing of beauty. Engineering marvels like this will be like pure gold when SHTF because they are built to last unlike the junk you can buy new today. You cant get anything like what you have for love or money brand new today.

Whoever did the restore on that motor did a great job BTW.

I am a woman and it sent me into a trance for sure.
The only problem with the trance is that I do not know anything about these machine.
But I have been studying all I can and trying to purchase the necessities .
So very glad I found your site!

I am contemplating to buy a property with no power closeby. What do you think I would need to set up some thing like this. I have a mobile home of 900sq feet. what type of system do you think would handle 3 people living there comfortably with enough power to get heat, internet, lights and….
I would really appreciate your opinion
    thanx

  18. veritas8985 says:

How long would you say it takes to fully charge your 3 battery banks off of the generator?

  19. Brie217 says:

How much is this Field Marshal engine?

  20. Yankeeprepper says:

I you find one, you will most likely pay between 1200 and 1500.

  21. Brie217 says:

    Can you recommend a distributor?

  22. Yankeeprepper says:

Unfortunately, your loving government has restricted the importation of Lister engines late of 2009. There are still many out there, but the distributors are gone. Ebay is the best bet. Generator Sales out of Maine and Utterpower (google both) are good sources too.
    goodluck.

  23. Brie217 says:

Is there a product # for the one you show on You Tube?

  24. Yankeeprepper says:

    Lister 6/1

  25. Floridaprepper says:

    Nice Listeroid engine.
